What’s on?

On this page we will shortly inform about some of the things that has been done in order to fulfill the objectives of the Work Programme.

EU-Excert – vocational traning in European explosives sector

EU-Excert aims to establish a stable firm fundament and framework for vocational education of people in the European explosives sector. Nordic IN participates in this EU funded project, which is a part of the Leonardo da Vinci programme.

A result of the project is that training and education institutions as well as social partners will have a tool for competence and career planning. New training methods will be developed. Transnational cooperation between training and education institutions and companies in different countries will be possible. A varied training program will be offered.

Introduction to the European Union

Nordic IN arranges regularly an introduction to the European Union for representativs and employees of the affiliates. The programme includes items like the institutions of the European Union, trade union structure at European level, the political work of the European Parliament and current EU issues.

The next introduction will be carried out in November 2008. An invitation will be sent to the affiliates before the summer of 2008.

EU and Life Long Learning, EQF

One of the issues that the network on Education and Traning is focusing on is the activities of the European Union when it comes to life long learning (European Qualifications Framework).

Already there are a lot of activities in the Nordic countries to support life long learning. One is analyzing the need of qualifications for different professions (the work of EU-Excert, described above, is an example of that).

The matter of life long learning is also discussed with the employers at European level, CEEMET (Council of European Employers of the Metal, Engineering and Tecnology-based industries).

Validation of qualifications

In the field of education and training Nordic IN has decided also to focus on the question of validating qualifications of the employees.

A questionnaire has been sent to the members of the network, in order to get a better foundation for the future work of the network. One of the objectives is to get a common definition of the concept of validation and a common understanding when it comes to how to use validation as a method.

Motivating the members

In the working environment of today people have to upgrade their skills. Through a survey to the affiliates the network will therefore try to get hold of the problems, obsticles or positive signals regarding this matter - in order to find the best way to motivate trade union members to develop their competence.

During the last collective bargaining round the Danish trade union IDA made a good deal regarding vocational training with a lot of money at disposal for both initial and further vocational training.

EMF Common Demand on training

The EMF affiliates agreed in 2005 on a common demand: The individual right to training guaranteed by collective agreements.

The affiliates themselves decide how to implement the common demand, in accordance with national traditions and methods of collective bargaining. The implementation is to be carried out within four years, i.e. 2009.

In the EMF Summer School in September 2007 there was an evaluation of how the implementation of the common demand is developing.
